Indietronica, Art Pop, Dream Pop
This is probably the most underrated Grizzly Bear related album. Recorded by Chris Taylor (bassist and producer of Grizzly Bear), the first thing that strikes with Dreams Come True is how different the sound feels compared to the band from Brooklyn. How different and how precise. Chris Taylor is not looking for his own identity here, he already owns it and it’s amazingly enjoyable.
There’s something magical about how the voice, the reverb, the basslines and different textures come together to create these 10 beautiful songs. Starting right off the bat with Too Late Too Far, CANT doesn’t take his time, we’re diving in medias res into this vast space of sounds. Just like the cover, sparkles of fire fly all around, until The Edge, where the gorgeous composition finds a calmer and more refined atmosphere.
But that only last a few seconds, because the major part of this album relies on musical strength. It’s a pure blast of sound. She Found a Way, Believe, Dreams Come True and Rises Silent are all rushing towards a powerful and dynamic feeling of joy. It’s only after all this that we are left with Bericht, quiet quiet. The raging bass line takes the shape of an electronic loop hidden in the background, the voice is eerie, CANT fades away. What a ride.
