“There's something in my soul / It's just ineffable / Mesmerizing” Here are some of the first lyrics from LOVE SUPREME most famous track, Lonely Feelings. Things you don’t know, things that are unreachable, or don’t even need to be known. Music, feelings, space, or even a banana floating in space. There may be a why but I’m not here to tell you what it is. Sometimes, it’s better to look at an obscure landscape rather than bathing it in a blinding light. Impossible to clearly classify, their first effort finds its way between many diverse influences, from Bill Evans to Charles Bukowski, John Coltrane and Tom Waits. Composed by the singer and globetrotter Jospeh Morice and the producer Kenzo Moz, this first effort by the French duo brilliantly plunge us into a world of downtempo, jazz, neo-soul and otherworldly harmonies about a heart trying to understand the feelings following a breakup.

As I wrote before, the first thing you understand from their music isn’t due to the lyrics, but from what you feel. On the opening track Crack, you will hear Jospeh Morice’s voice for the first time. And this is the kind of first time you’re going to remember. Deep, smooth, like an ancient crooner born in the wrong century, but perfectly understanding how music changed, Morice immerse us in his word of night. Alongside wonderful synths and piano plays, the main theme of this album has to do with a breakup. But it’s not a complain, neither an analysis, it’s an observation. In Beauty, where Kenzo Moz reinvents Morice’s voice, making it even more deep and emotional, the singer confronts the duality of human relationships, how we keep longing for things that may damage us forever, or heal us, longing for destruction and rebirth.

It’s with this reasoning that LOVE SUPREME reveals their songs, finding beauty and cathartic climaxes in sometimes profoundly sad atmospheres. This is the cas with Lonely Feelings, Ain’t No Remedy and Beauty, opposed to the more exulting Knowledge Don’t Know, From These Restless Hours and the final track, Sun.
Travelling through the many lonely steps of being heartbroken, dealing with painful memories, nonexistent fantasies and warm breathing, LOVE SUPREME suggests complex images finding their place in our minds. Unpredictably evolving, their music and lyrics the band doesn’t drown in sadness, and decide to chose the optimist side of their album to conclude. With Sun, they remind us we all carry a shrine of hope within us, because we have access to those spirited feelings their music convey.
