Four little songs to end a career, managing to sound the same, five years after their last album Seasons of Your Day, while summarizing everything they build since 1989. Even if it’s short, this last EP shines like a gem from the beginning to the end.
28 years after She Hangs Brightly, Mazzy Star open their EP with one of the most beautiful ballad they ever wrote, Quiet the Winter Harbor, a title that could only have been written by the duo. More than ever, her cotton-like voice and his softly driven guitar skills assembles into an aura of beauty and silence. With the second song, That Way Again, Mazzy Star go back to their bluesy roots for an efficient song that feels as nostalgic as it feels new : typical Mazzy Star’s magic. The third song, Still, has that spoken word vibe some songs on So Tonight That I Might See had, without the heavy production of the 1990’s, just like the closure, the alternative version of their trance-like 1993 song, even more powerful than the original. The circle is complete, they ended it all in grace and artistry.
